vicVic Mackey is a free man, sort of …

If you’re a fan of The Shield and you didn’t watch the series finale Tuesday night on FX, I am sorry for ruining it for you. Then again, if you’re a fan and haven’t watched the finale, but you’re reading my blog — traditionally one about baseball cards — then maybe you’re not much of a fan. Or maybe you just can’t get enough of Cardboard Icons. It’s OK, I understand. I’ll get back to cards later, but for now enjoy my recap and thoughts on the finale of The Shield. Read more »

hoffgilesThere was a time where a card like this would gave been the coolest thing I owned, and for several reasons.

I love receiving the autographs in the mail, but at times I hate writing requests and then receiving nothing back. I know it’s part of the game. But, all it takes is one return to re-energize anyone.

Today I present my latest TTM success, and it’s another good one in my mind. Here we’ve got a 2004 Topps Archives All-Time Favorite base card signed by former Major League Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth. Read more »

I just got a message from the eBay seller from whom I purchased the Manny lot (previous post) from, and he said the cards were signed at Fenway Park four years ago. I have no reason to believe he is lying, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. But does this back story change anyone’s mind about the authenticity of these autographs? So far none of the three people who have taken the authenticity poll in that last post can rule them as being fake. One person said they were certain they are real, two are undecided. This is interesting to me because I figured lots of people would automatically discount them as fakes right away. The signatures share similarities with the early Manny autos, but look nothing like those signed in recent years. Hmmm …
