cbi1961posthankaaronsheetGot a quick hitter here. Today I present a very special collectible, one I picked up about a year ago for the bargain price of $15. Here we’ve got an uncut sheet/panel of 1961 Post baseball cards, featuring Hall of Famer Hank Aaron. It’s value? Unknown due to its rarity.

I knew when I saw this panel that I had to have it. The price tag was a bit steep — considering the odd pricing structure this particular thrift store uses and my penchant for being stingy at times — but the uniqueness of the piece made it a must have. Read more »

New Additions Part VII: Back to the Future

Posted in New Addition with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 23, 2009 by Cardboard Icons

napt762marisIt’s been more than three weeks since I showcased some of my new additions. Since that last post, a few new envelopes have shown up, the majority of which have come from eBay sellers. There is a constant theme running through these recent envelopes: The contents within are at least 10 years old, and in some cases the cardboard is older than I am.

Pack Break: 1994 Flair Series 2: The Hunt for A-Rod

But on Tuesday I made a trip to the card shop for some supplies and wound up digging through three plastic bins full of bargain packs. I came up with four 1994 Flair Series 2 packs priced at $3 each. Read more »

ramprojectlogodoneFor about a year and a half I’ve been working on my “RAM Project,” one that entails obtaining a rookie (or early card), autograph and memorabilia card of all of the game’s greatest players. In some cases I’ve already made great strides. I’ve got a Babe Ruth bat card, a Willie Mays autograph and Hank Aaron rookie, as shown here.

But either early this week or late last week — all of my days are running together right now — I started thinking more and more about my feelings about memorabilia/game-used cards. Read more »

Dear MLB Network, Part I

Posted in Dear MLB Network, Newspaperman with tags , , , , , , , , , on January 19, 2009 by Cardboard Icons

johnmilescardThe last few days I’ve had the great pleasure of watching the MLB Network while watching over my newborn daughter during the day time and in the early morning hours. And one thing has become increasingly more apparent: There is no new content on this channel during the weekend.

For the love of God, can someone in New York mix in something new? I don’t care if I end up watching the Yankees pummel the Red Sox for an entire day. Anything but another re-run of the 1986 season. Read more »
