New Red Sox images: 1965 Topps Carl Yastrzemski

Updating the Red Sox collection this morning and scanned in some 1965 Topps cards. While doing so I noticed something new about the Carl Yastrzemski card from this set. Can you tell the difference between the Yaz and the Felix Mantilla and Earl Wilson I also scanned in?

  1. Yep, Yaz’s name is in white letters and the others are in yellow. He’s the only one in the ’65 Red Sox team set with white letters (aside from the prospects cards).

    I love the ’65 Red Sox set, by the way.

  2. I’ve had this Yaz for about three years now and hadn’t noticed that the letters were white until this morning while working on my project. Curious, I went to the Beckett Almanac, where there is no mention. I figure it’s an uncorrected printing error at best. Afterall, the Almanac is filled with off little tidbits such as this …
