2009 Topps: An Inside The Park Home Run

It took me a few years of collecting to really appreciate the images that grace these pieces of cardboard we value so much. And ever since the light went on a while back, I like to study images for what they are … slices of baseball history, as insignificant as they may be.

Well, while sorting my 2009 Topps base cards the other day, something started to happen: I saw a play developing on the cards. This is a bit on the weird side, but I’ve constructed an inside the park sequence using the images from the 2009 Topps set. Enjoy.

2009toppscerealMade a trip to the shop today to buy cards, but wound up purchasing only supplies. So I stopped at Toys R Us on the way home and walked away with one of these 2009 Topps Retail Mini Cereal Boxes — not to be confused with the hobby cereal boxes, which contain a cool binder and sheets. It was a fresh case of 12 boxes so I had my choice of Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth or Ted Williams. Because I’m a Sox fan you know damn well I’m choosing Teddy Ballgame. I figure even if the contents of the box suck, the packaging will serve as a cool little decoration for my work desk. Continue reading

~ I want to express my gratitude to Topps for making sure its Topps Town promotion was up and running on time as announced. Last week I expressed my disappointment with Topps for not having the promotion active on the released date (Feb. 4). Instead, Topps had this banner pictured above telling users that the 2009 Topps Town codes would be active on Feb. 13.

Well today is Feb. 13 and I am having so much fun with Topps Town, I can hardly pry myself away from the computer.~

Ah, who am I kidding. If you haven’t tried to enter any codes into ToppsTown.com today, don’t bother. The damn thing is still not working. Continue reading
