Congrats Matt Garza; hello Bowman Chrome Blue Refractor

It’s about time. That’s all I can say after Matt Garza threw his no-hitter Monday night. A few years ago, when Jay Bruce was hotter than Satan himself, I splurged and opened a box of 2005 Bowman Draft. It wasn’t cheap, but I did defeat the odds. Not only did I pull every solid base Chrome rookie, I also I managed to pull this blue refractor Matt Garza. I was happy to have pulled the card as Garza was showing promises of being a star. Then he went back to being mediocre this card became somewhat of an afterthought. Fast forward to this evening and suddenly Mr. No-Nonsense is Mr. No-No.

Card of the Day: 2008 UD Masterpieces Curt Schilling

Right before I decided to sit down and write my “Card of the Day,” I posted my 2008 UD Masterpieces Box Break, which I thought went better than average. I mean I pulled the Evan Longoria RC from the base set, snagged a jersey and two YSL cards. And of course I got three Red Sox cards in eight packs, so it was a pretty good break. But in between posts I took a break (read: used the restroom) and read the backs of these cards. The Schilling card caught my attention immediately. Continue reading
